Naoya Kihara is certainly proving be worthy of his recent PokerListings Spirit of Poker award.
He’s already one of the early chip leaders here on Day 1b thanks to a recent hand.
In the hand Kihara was on the big blind and called a bet from a female poker marked cards player player in UTG and another caller in mid-position.
The flop came 9♦ 6♠3♣ and Kihara checked but the initial raiser threw out a continuation bet of 2,250.
The prompted a fold from the player who called in mid-position but Kihara check-raised to 5,500. His opponent immediately moved all-in for a total of 19,000.
Kihara called and flipped over 6♥ 6♣ for the flopped set. His opponent showed pocket kings.
The board finished with the 7♦ and finally the 2♥ to secure Kihara the pot and eliminate his opponent. Kihara is now at about 40,000 chips, or twice what he started the day with.
